The Marlins swam up to Boston for tonight’s kickoff of the weekend series, and Sanda Alcantara was ready. The former Cy Young winner held Boston hitless (and without a baserunner) for four innings but eventually got bit in the sixth inning, when Alex Bregman doubled home Roman Anthony to tie it at 1. None of it would have been possible without Lucas Giolito, who managed to quiet most of the Marlins lineup including flash phenom Jacob Marsee. (Marsee your way back to the bench, son!)
Anyhow the Sox held onto the tie until the ninth and then won it easily. That’s all that matters.
Three Studs
Giolito looked lights out once again, allowing 1 run over 6.1 innings with 5 strikeouts in another promising start. It just took a while to come into view in light of Alcantara’s strong start.
