WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Public health officials are warning residents in western Massachusetts to be cautious of cyanobacteria as they enjoy summer activities by the water.
The Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation has issued several advisories, indicating that it is not safe to swim in certain bodies of water due to cyanobacteria blooms.
"It's a little bit of an inconvenience for the local people. I like spending time with family, to be honest," said Felex Robles Velez.
Cyanobacteria, which can pollute water bodies, live in all types of bodies of water and can pose risks to both people and animals.
Advisories have been issued for Chicopee State Park, Rubber Thread Pond in Easthampton, and Bass Pond in Springfield, warning residents to avoid swimming in these areas.
