CORTLAND, Ohio - A Trumbull County Sheriff's Deputy was involved in a car crash late Friday evening in Cortland and had to be removed with the jaws of life.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Elm Road and Burnett Drive. According to the press release, the officer was driving through the intersection with his lights and sirens activated, overtaking slow-moving traffic, when a Honda Civic abruptly turned out in front of the officer's path.
The officer slammed on his brakes and swerved abruptly to avoid the car, causing him to strike a Ford Escape driven by a 78-year-old woman.
The officer was not injured, but had to be removed from the vehicle with the jaws of life as his door was stuck shut.
