AUSTIN, Texas — A man who police say admitted to stabbing another man on a CapMetro bus in May has been deemed incompetent to stand trial, according to online court records.

Deepak Kandel was charged with first-degree murder, after police say he admitted to stabbing 30-year-old Akshay Gupta because he resembled his uncle.

According to the Austin Police Department (APD), officers responded to a call in the 500 block of South Lamar Blvd., near Barton Springs Road at around 6:45 p.m. on May 14.

When police arrived on scene, they located the victim, identified as Gupta, with trauma to his body. Life-saving measures were conducted but he was pronounced dead at 7:30 p.m.
