Baseball, ladies and gentlemen, is one heck of a game.
Sometimes it exhausts you. Sometimes it infuriates you. Sometimes you might feel like you’re spending too much of your time on this hobby. But then a game like tonight comes along that reminds you why we all watch this glorious sport.
Tonight in Houston, local kid Brandon Young — who grew up as an Astros fan in nearby Lumberton, Texas — proceeded to throw the best damn game of his entire life while pitching in front of a whole town’s worth of friends and family. Young entered the game winless as a major leaguer, with a 6.70 ERA after the first 10 starts of his career. He finished it as a conquering hero, mowing down 23 consecutive hitters and coming within four outs of the unlikeliest perfect game in MLB history.
