SHELDON, Iowa -- Students at Sheldon High School will get a an extra week of summer vacation.

To give contractors more time to finish some construction projects at the high school, the first day of classes at the high school is not set for Monday, Sept. 2.

The new school year will start on schedule on Monday, Aug. 25 for students at the middle school and East Elementary school.

Two years ago, nearly 73% percent of district voters approved a $19.16 million bond issue to modernize and expand the high school. Other revenue sources pushed the cost of a project estimated at $33 million.
