Like many parents, Mya McDonald was so excited about her daughter's first day back at school, until discovering what her 7-year-old did that morning to make it memorable for all the wrong reasons.

As the summer holidays drew to a close, McDonald and her daughter, Shemaiah, 7, had spoken at length about the new school term that lies ahead. Shemaiah was so excited to be back with all her friends and to pick up where she left off at the end of last year.

McDonald, of Miami, Florida, told Newsweek that her daughter had "talked about it all summer," and Shemaiah could barely contain her happiness when the first day of school finally arrived. As it turned out, she felt the need to give herself a whole new hairdo that same morning to mark the occasion—much to her mom's surprise.
