A group of lacrosse parents from New Brunswick are showing love to first responders in Newfoundland and Labrador, after their Canada Games experience was upended by wildfires.

Charlene Thompson said she and other parents were moved to start a fundraiser after watching a wildfire unfold just a few kilometres from the Paradise arena where their children were playing.

The fire on the outskirts of St. John's has been burning out of control since Monday, prompting parts of Paradise to be on standby for evacuation.
