Iconic landmarks in London were lit up with Union Jack flags on Friday evening to mark the 80th Anniversary of VJ Day.

The Shard and Big Ben could both be seen with projections of the Union Jack.

VJ day, which stands for Victory over Japan day, marks the day Japan surrendered to the Allied forces in 1945.

It is estimated that over 70,000 U.K. and Commonwealth soldiers died fighting Japan in the war.
