A healthy Tainoa Lave is a dangerous man for the rest of the OIA.
Lave returned from a back injury to provide key coverage on defense and reliable kick returning as No. 4-ranked Campbell stymied Waipahu , 21-6, on Friday night at Masa Yonamine Athletic Complex.
It is the 11th consecutive win by Campbell over Waipahu in their Cane Knife Classic series.
The nonconference matchup allowed the visiting Sabers (1-0) a chance to face a powerful ground-and-pound Waipahu offense. Campbell was up to the task, allowing just 64 rushing yards on 23 attempts. Waipahu running back Tristan Pacheco had 61 hard-earned yards on 17 carries.
Still, the home team was down 7-6 in the third quarter and threatened to take the lead, but a dropped 2-point conversion took some wind out of the Marauders’ sails
