MACON, Ga. — Tropical Storm Erin, which formed off the west coast of Africa and became our 5th named storm and first hurricane of the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season, has been upgraded to our first major hurricane of the season. Meanwhile, the National Hurricane Center is also monitoring another area of potential tropical development.

Hurricane Erin:

A tropical wave that pushed off the coast of western Africa officially organized into Tropical Storm Erin earlier this week.

Located north of the Lesser Antilles, Erin is moving west-northwest at 20 miles per hour, and now has sustained winds of 120 mph and a central pressure of 979 mb, making it a category 3 storm, our first major hurricane of the season.
