The LIRR will add extra stops at the Mets-Willets Point Station on the Long Island Rail Road next week, ahead of the U.S. Open, the MTA announced at a news conference on Friday morning.
Beginning Monday, the start of U.S. Open Fan Week, four additional trains on the Port Washington line will stop during weekday peak hours between 8:30 a.m. and 9:31 a.m., LIRR President Rob Free said at Billie Jean King Stadium on Friday.
In addition, all weekday westbound Port Washington trains have a scheduled Mets-Willets Point stop after 9:30 a.m., as do all weekend trains.
MTA officials encouraged attendees to take mass transit after last year's tournament had a record 1,048,669 attendees, surpassing the seven-figure mark for the first time, the U.S. Open website said.
