If the viral video of the grimy water removed from London Tube seats taught me anything, it was that eating on public transport is best avoided. Not that I needed the reminder – having taken two buses to and another two from college as a teenager, I was fully aware that the most hygienic of dinners are not eaten on the top deck.

However, a trip to one Cambridge pub saw me break my rule against bus-seat snacking. With its unpainted wooden benches and uncarpeted floorboards, there was little in the bar area of Thirsty on Chesterton Road to set it apart from other stripped-back, hipster-ish craft beer spots.

Once I wandered past the bar to the dimly-lit back room, though, the scene became more unique. I found a style that I can only describe as 'storeroom chic'.
