A shelter-in-place that was issued late Friday night in Rumford, Maine, amid a search for multiple armed gunmen has since been lifted, police said Saturday morning.
In a 6:30 a.m. update posted to Facebook , Rumford police said that the shelter-in-place advisory for the South Rumford Road/Route 232 area had been lifted, saying the public was no longer in immediate danger.

An emergency alert was first posted around 11:45 p.m. Friday, with police warning residents in the area of the South Rumford Road and Milton Road in Rumford Corner to stay indoors with their doors locked due to "two armed gunmen in the vicinity."
