Sadiq Khan is set to ban all cars from a major tourist area as "urgent action" impacts travel for millions . T he ban would see vehicles no longer able to travel between Orchard Street and Great Portland Street.
Labour Party London Mayor Mr Khan is pressing forward with ambitious plans to transform Oxford Street into a pedestrianised zone, following overwhelming public backing.
It comes after the Mayor said there was “overwhelming” support for the plan from the 6,000 people who took part in a consultation, with two thirds backing pedestrianisation. It comes despite concerns from local people about where cars, buses and cyclists would be rerouted if Oxford Street was blocked off.
