ELLIS COUNTY, Texas — A Texas State Trooper sustained minor injuries Friday afternoon while attempting to arrest a driver during a traffic stop on U.S. 287 near Black Champ Road, authorities said.

The trooper pulled over a red GMC pickup truck at about 3 p.m. after observing a traffic violation, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). As the truck slowed down to pull over, someone got out of the passenger's seat and fled north on foot, officials said.

Shortly after, the driver, identified as Jose Molina, 28, of Fort Worth, stopped the truck. According to DPS, the trooper tried to arrest Molina, but he resisted, injuring the trooper in the struggle. Authorities said the trooper was eventually able to take Molina into custody.
