LETCHER COUNTY, Ky. (WJHL) — The former Letcher County sheriff accused of murdering a judge in his chambers appeared for a status hearing Friday.

Shawn "Mickey" Stines is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of District Judge Kevin Mullins on Sept. 19, 2024. He was later charged with an additional charge of murder of a public official.

Stines has pleaded not guilty to all charges against him.

Stines's attorneys had previously filed a motion to unseal his psych evaluation. On Friday, his defense also presented a motion for dismissal of the case.
