Nine teenagers in South Carolina have been arrested in connection with the June shooting death of 16-year-old Trey Dean Wright. Authorities say the incident stemmed from an argument over a girl. Among those arrested is Wright's 17-year-old girlfriend, Gianna Kistenmacher.

Wright was found dead on June 24 on First Neck Road, approximately 45 miles west of Myrtle Beach. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The following day, 19-year-old Devan Scott Raper was arrested for allegedly shooting Wright after a confrontation. Reports indicate that at least one of the teens involved recorded the incident on video.

Wright's mother, Ashley Lindsey, expressed her distress over the ongoing legal proceedings. "All this court hearing and bond court and stuff is driving me crazy. I don’t even have time to sit down and think half the time, on top of losing my precious baby," she said.

Authorities have stated that several of the teens are facing charges for allegedly setting up Wright and bringing Raper to the scene, knowing he was armed. Kistenmacher has been charged as an accessory before the fact for allegedly facilitating Raper's presence at the crime scene, aware of his intentions.

Major Michael Nunn of the Florence County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the group was complicit in the events leading to the shooting. "They were complicit in bringing the armed codefendant, Raper, to the incident location and knowing that there would be a confrontation," he said. Nunn also noted that under state law, some of the suspects are being charged as adults.

In addition to Raper, who faces charges of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, three more teens from the Myrtle Beach area have been charged with murder. They are identified as 18-year-olds Hunter Kendall and Corrine Belviso, and 17-year-old Sydney Kearns. Nunn explained that South Carolina law holds all involved parties accountable, stating, "The hand of one being the hand of all is part of South Carolina law as well."

Sheriff T.J. Joye indicated that the shooting was related to a romantic rivalry. "They had issues with each other, and it was over a female," he said. "The sad thing is, you got a 16-year-old that lost his life. You’ve got a 19-year-old who is going to be in jail the rest of his life. Over what?"

Raper is currently being held without bond, as is Kendall. Belviso and Kearns have each posted $20,000 surety bonds and have been released pending trial.
