A Ukrainian MP has said her country has been abandoned by the US after Donald Trump failed to strike a peace deal at his Alaska summit with Vladimir Putin .

Kira Rudik said any hopes that the American president had a “hidden plan” to end the war had evaporated following the talks.

Trump literally rolled out the red carpet for Putin, who started the war in February 2022 when he ordered the invasion of his eastern European neighbour.

At a joint-press conference following their face-to-face talks in Anchorage, Trump admitted the pair had failed to reach an agreement, with Putin refusing to call a halt to his brutal bombing campaign.

Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy will fly to Washington on Monday for talks with Trump at the White House.
