United States President Donald Trump has reiterated his promise to free Niagara-on-the-Lake business owner Jimmy Lai from a Hong Kong prison.

Lai is the owner of Vintage Hotels in Niagara-on-the-Lake. He took over the Pillar and Post in 1974 and then the Prince of Wales Hotel, which was sold to him by the Wiens family. He also purchased Queen’s Landing and then the Oban Inn, which is operated by his twin sister, Si Wai Lai.

During an Aug. 14 interview on Fox News Radio hosted by Hugh Hewitt, Trump said he will “do everything I can to save him. I’m going to do everything … His name has entered the circle of things that we are talking about and we’ll see what we can do.”
