OHIO — A new statewide initiative aims to make traffic stops and emergency interactions safer and less stressful for individuals with developmental disabilities.

The Southern Ohio Council of Governments (SOCOG), with support from the Ohio Developmental Disabilities Council and the Southern Ohio Advocacy Group, has launched the Blue Envelope Program across Ohio.

The program equips drivers with a blue envelope containing their driver’s license, registration, insurance, and important information about their disability or medical needs. A matching vehicle decal discreetly alerts first responders, while a wallet-sized card offers similar information for use outside the car.
