There was plenty of love and smiles among the thousands of people who attended Pride in the Park on Saturday, Aug. 9, in Fargo. It was a day of celebration and unity. But not far from all that happiness was fright.

Local members of the LGBTQ community are alarmed as to what’s come out of Washington and Bismarck this year. The Trump administration is shamefully trying to dehumanize transgender people and pretend they don’t exist.

In addition, the administration has disgracefully dismantled DEI programs, canceled a Kennedy Center program to celebrate LGBTQ rights, canceled grants and funding to fight AIDS and even dropped references to the Enola Gay (the plane that dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima) because it has the word “gay” in its name.
