The Gilbert Public Schools Governing Board has voted to provide each board member up to $3,000 annually for professional development during the 2025–26 school year, despite two members dissenting without explanation.

The 3–2 vote on Aug. 12 came less than two months after the board voted to withdraw from the Arizona School Boards Association, which offers training and conferences for governing boards. Board President Chad Thompson, along with members Shana Murray and Blake Robison, supported that earlier decision to leave ASBA.

Murray and Robison cast the dissenting votes on the new training allowance. They did not comment before the vote.
