Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Greater Sudbury and surrounding areas, warning residents to brace for potentially hazardous weather conditions this afternoon and into the early evening.

As the weather system moves through the region, people are advised to remain vigilant and prepared for sudden changes in conditions.

Meteorologists say the region could experience wind gusts up to 90 km/h, localized rainfall reaching 50 mm and hail up to nickel size.

These conditions are being driven by scattered thunderstorms developing along a cold front moving through the area, Environment Canada said. The storms may bring intense bursts of wind, heavy downpours, and hail, posing risks to property, infrastructure, and personal safety.
