RUMFORD, Maine — The Rumford Police Department is searching for three men who shot at officers during an attempted traffic stop Friday night.

At around 10:30 p.m., an officer tried to stop a suspicious vehicle with multiple people inside on Eaton Hill Road, according to a news release. The silver-and-black Dodge Charger immediately sped off and the officer followed the car. A second officer joined the pursuit.

The car traveled west on Route 2 for about half-mile before turning onto South Rumford Road. Officials said the suspects then allegedly fired multiple rounds of gunshots at the officers with at least one AR-15-style rifle.
