European leaders issued a joint statement on Saturday following the summit of Russian and US presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Alaska.

"We stand ready to work with President Trump and President Zelenskyy to achieve a trilateral summit with European support," reads the text of the declaration, signed by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen; French President Emmanuel Macron; Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni; German Chancellor Friedrich Merz; British Prime Minister Keir Starmer; Finnish President Alexander Stubb; Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk; and European Council President António Costa.
