VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - The Virginia Beach Sheriff's Office announced Thursday they are upgrading their Correctional Center Inmate Kitchen, where approximately 1.3 million meals are prepared annually.
The work on the kitchen, which is a part of a $457,000 contract, began on Aug. 4 and is halfway complete, according to VBSO.
The kitchen, which was first opened in 2005, had brick flooring and cinderblock walls. The flooring had begone to sink over the years and the walls were hard to sanitize and keep clean says the sheriff's office.
“This is the first major upgrade the Inmate Kitchen has had in 20 years,” said Sheriff Rocky Holcomb. “It’s important that our inmate trusties and VBSO staff work in a safe and sanitary environment. This renovation was much needed, and we’re proud of the
