ASHEBORO, N.C. — A 21-year-old man is recovering after a Friday night shooting in Asheboro, according to police.

Officers responded around 10:54 p.m. to reports of gunfire near Watkins Street. Around that time, 21-year-old Jaylen Curtis arrived at a business near Elm and Salisbury Streets with gunshot wounds to his upper arm and neck.

Officers gave lifesaving medical treatment until EMS arrived and took Curtis to an out-of-county medical facility in critical condition. By Saturday, police said his condition had improved to stable, and he is expected to survive.

Detectives said they found multiple rifle-caliber shell casings on Watkins Street. According to authorities, the evidence matched bullet holes in Curtis’ vehicle.
