As fans follow the health of singer and actor Justin Timberlake, his illness serves as a reminder of the importance of trying to prevent and treat tickborne diseases.
Timberlake has Lyme disease, which almost a half-million Americans are diagnosed with and treated for each year. That's according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which says some of them may have been misdiagnosed.
Timberlake doesn't seem to have any doubt about his condition, which he said has caused nerve pain, fatigue and other symptoms. He believes his diagnosis came well after he was infected.
Bottom line: It's not something anyone wants to get, celebrity or not. So here, with the help of infectious diseases specialist Stephen Thacker, M.D., of MUSC Children's Health,
