SPOKANE, Wash. — Saturday, August 16 is the last day of free, open swimming at the City of Spokane's six aquatic centers.

However, the Together Spokane initiative proposes renovating a shuttered indoor pool at Spokane Community College for year-round use. The proposal will appear on the November ballot.

If the plan is approved, the indoor public pool would offer:

More swim lessons for youth and adults (summer swim lessons usually reach maximum capacity)

Swim lessons for Spokane Public School second grades, as part of their curriculum

More adaptive swim times for people with special needs

Access for high school swim teams

More aquatics programming like aquafit and lap swimming

Additional lifeguard certification classes
