DK Suresh of Wake Forest won a qualifying match on Saturday in hopes of getting into the main draw of the 14th Winston-Salem Open.

Suresh, a rising senior, bested Aidan Mayor 6-3, 6-4 in a qualifying match on Saturday to kick off the tournament at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.

Suresh will play in another qualifying match on Sunday at 1 p.m. If he wins that match, he'll be in the field of 64 for the main draw.

Suresh, who helped the Demon Deacons win the national championship this past spring, had eight aces in his match and also got in 69% of his first serves. He also won 82% of the points on his second serve, going 14 of 17.

Suresh’s teammate, Luca Pow, also played in a qualifying match but lost to Aleksandar Vukic 6-3, 6-4.
