Phillies ace pitcher Zack Wheeler has been diagnosed with a blood clot in “the right upper extremities” and placed on the 15-day injured list.
Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski made the announcement Saturday from Washington DC after the Phillies were shut out by the Nationals. 2-0.
Dombrowski and team medical personnel didn’t address a plan of treatment for the blood clot, only saying there is a number of approaches and they weren’t getting into specifics at that time. No timeline for Wheeler’s return has been given.
Wheeler’s roster spot will be taken by pitcher Aaron Nola who will be activated and start the series finale at DC Sunday. First pitch is 11:35 a.m.
For the past half-a-dozen starts, Wheeler hasn’t quite been himself. Need a break? Play the USA TOD
