The Iowa Lottery called on more than 1,300 Iowans to help break a Guinness World Record — and they succeeded

Roughly 1,380 people came together on Aug. 14 at the Iowa State Fair to try a free scratch-off ticket and break the record for the most people scratching tickets simultaneously

"I could be dead tomorrow, but I'd have a world record before I go," one participant joked

More than 1,300 people in Iowa came together this week to attempt to break a world record with the help of their state's lottery.

On Thursday, Aug. 14, the Iowa Lottery tapped roughly 1,380 people at the Iowa State Fair to attempt the Guinness World Record for the most people scratching scratch tickets simultaneously — ultimately giving them a massive edge over the previous record holder.
