ELYRIA, Ohio (WJW) -- Standing before a judge is the last place anyone wants to be.
It was also the last place that Lindsey ever expected to be. She was a very good BMX racer until she broke her leg in a fall and was prescribed prescription painkillers after surgery. That started years of addiction and run-ins with the law that almost put her in jail.
"I was at the lowest point and I had to figure out how to get out," Lindsey said.
Lindsey's way out started with the Elyria Municipal Recovery Court. Judge Robert White gave Lindsay a chance to stay out of jail.
Going to jail is easy, but the program of counseling, therapy and personal responsibility is not.
