Northwoods Habitat for Humanity was awarded a $4,000 Spark Good Local Grant from the Bemidji Walmart store to help further its mission of building safe, affordable housing for families in need.
According to a release, the funding will go directly toward construction costs for two homes currently under development in Bemidji, located on 19th St. NW and 26th St. NE.
Each home will be sold at an affordable price to a family in need who has contributed "sweat equity" by working alongside volunteers to help build their home. Both homes are expected to be completed and sold this fall.
In addition to the grant, Walmart sent teams of regional store managers to volunteer their time at Habitat build sites this month. Their support provided valuable hands-on help in the construction process — digg
