BEMIDJI — Marcos Watkins spent his entire playing career trying to stop the defense. However, during his coaching career, he’s been doing the opposite.
The new Bemidji State defensive tackles coach was an offensive lineman at Buffalo State, graduating in 2019. Watkins took a job as a graduate assistant at New Haven — a Division II school — coaching on the other side of the ball.
“I see it as an exciting challenge, because funny enough, I've been doing defense ever since I became a coach, which was unexpected for me, too,” Watkins said. “But I was like, ‘Well, hey, at least I already know what this is supposed to look like from the other end. So I should know how to beat this now.’”
