NEW YORK — In his first major league start, Nolan McLean found himself on the ropes in the top of the third inning.

As McLean's command wavered, he walked the opening two batters in the frame. After striking out Randy Arozarena, Cal Raleigh singled into right field to load the bases.

With a little bit of magic, McLean was able to work out of the jam and keep the Mariners off the scoreboard.

Facing Mariners' No. 3 hitter Julio Rodriguez, McLean jammed him inside with a sweeper, inducing a ground ball up the middle and flipping his glove behind his back to smother the ball and kick-start an inning-ending double play to Brett Baty at second base.
