LOS ANGELES – Authorities are investigating the fatal shooting death of a person early Saturday morning in the Chesterfield Square area.

Los Angeles Police Department officers responded to the intersection of Slauson Avenue and Ruthelen Street to reports of a shooting around 6:00 a.m.

Upon arrival, they located the victim suffering from gunshot wounds in the parking lot that houses IHOP, Food 4 Less, Home Depot, and other retail stores.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics pronounced the victim deceased en route to a local hospital.

According to KTLA5, the suspect is described as a heavyset man who authorities say remains outstanding.

The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.
