OSWEGO COUNTY, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) -- A serial deer poacher was arrested on felony charges by the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) police following a lengthy investigation.

The suspect, whom the DEC did not name in a news release, stands accused of illegally killing over 30 deer in the last five years. He was arrested on Aug. 6.

The investigation began in November 2024, when someone called 911 and reported hearing gunshots near Rikers Beach Road in Scriba. State troopers told DEC officers that they had removed two target shooters in the area. A DEC officer called the two shooters, who both admitted to shooting with two rifles.

But according to the DEC, something wasn't adding up.
