SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — A group of middle school girls visited WSAV this afternoon for a behind the scenes look at broadcast journalism.

The students, in grades 5th through 8th grade, are part of the Precious Gems mentoring program, part of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.'s Gamma Sigma Omega Chapter.

The program focuses on mentorship, community service and exposure to opportunities they might not otherwise experience.

WSAV's very own Tina Tyus-Shaw welcomed the girls and shared how she began her career in journalism. Executive director of digital content Kris Hummer provided them with an overview of how content is created and shared online.
