An arts movement is underway in Rankin.

Its nucleus was unveiled Saturday during Rankin Rodeo Day — a public art mural, which spans nearly three streets, at the intersection of Fourth and Hawkins avenues.

On a sweltering afternoon, people from Rankin and beyond gathered for the festivities. The colorful artwork stretched across the pavement alongside a bull-riding machine, pony rides, a small petting zoo, food and music. The mural has already sparked conversations and impact in the community, just as intended.

The project is a partnership between the borough and Rivers of Steel, an organization that supports economic revitalization and showcases the artistry and innovation of southwestern Pennsylvania’s industrial and cultural heritage.
