EUGENE, Ore. — A new coaching staff at South Eugene is looking to turn the football program around, and senior leadership is going to play a big role in that effort.

Matthew Moreno is one of those leaders. The senior offensive lineman has been in the trenches for years, starting with flag football as a kid before making the jump to tackle his freshman year. Now, holding down the center position, he’s in one of the most physical and important spots on the field — and he loves every minute of it.

“You gotta be physical on the line. I mean, to push him back, give him away from the running back, quarterback. Center, it's my favorite spot. I don't want to play anywhere else. .”

Under head coach Eric Scott, practices are intense, competitive, and demanding, but they’re also fun. Moreno says
