EUGENE, Ore. – A nationwide movement against the Texas redistricting vote took place on Aug. 16. In Eugene, at least two protests saw as many as 200 people or more, hoping to spread their message.

The Texas redistricting issue started in late July when Texas House Republicans put out a new congressional map aimed to pick up five GOP seats.

As a response, organizers with "Fight the Trump Takeover" called for nationwide protests on Saturday.

They claim President Trump "is trying to steal the 2026 election by rigging the system and changing electoral maps," citing the upcoming redistricting vote in Texas.

Protestors in Eugene explained why they joined in on the protests across the country.
