WEST HAVEN, Conn. — A West Haven lifeguard was recognized on Tuesday for heroically saving a young swimmer in distress off Sea Bluff Beach two weeks prior.

Head Lifeguard Jack Mikos, of the West Haven Department of Parks and Recreation, received a citation from Mayor Dorinda Borer on Tuesday for saving the boy’s life on July 29, according to a city release.

Miklos will soon enter his junior year at Stonehill College. Accompanied by his parents and grandmothers, he was honored by Borer and other city officials during a ceremony held on Oak Street Beach at a pair of lifeguard chairs.

The incident reportedly occurred around 2 p.m. on the last Tuesday of July. The young swimmer chased a beach ball into the water at high tide near the pedestrian bridge on Sea Bluff Beach.
