NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Support groups for families of homicide victims in the New Haven area gathered Saturday morning to honor their loved ones with a motorcade through the city.

The motorcade, featuring pictures of victims who lost their lives to violence, was organized to raise awareness about the ongoing issue of violent crime in and around New Haven.

Among those speaking out was Pamela Jaynez, president of the Hamden Homicide Memorial. She shared the painful story of her son Walter, who was killed nearly 30 years ago.

"My son was such a gentleman. He loved his daughter, she was 15 months old when he passed," Jaynez said. "He [could have] lived to see her grow up, to see her get married, to see her graduate college, but because his life was cut short, none of that happened."
