LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The Los Angeles County Fire Department announced the "active-duty death" of one of its firefighter paramedics on Saturday.

Jerry W. Guzman died sometime on Friday, according to the department's X feed , but officials did not provide further details about his death.

"It is with a heavy heart the #LACoFD share the active-duty death of FFPM Jerry W. Guzman," the department wrote. "FFPM Guzman was last assigned to FS 32 in Azusa. He faithfully served our Department & communities for 23 years. We extend our deepest prayers & condolences to the Guzman family."

The department updated its profile photo to include a black stripe over the logo, something police and fire departments often do after an active-duty death.
