COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio Governor Mike DeWine is sending 150 military police from the Ohio National Guard to Washington D.C. to bolster National Guard members already on the ground in the city.

DeWine says the National Guard members will “carry out presence patrols and serve as added security.”

Troops will begin arrive in D.C. in the coming days according to the governor.

The move comes about a week after President Donald Trump said he was placing the nation’s capital city under federal control and began deploying National Guard troops to the district.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, President Trump says he was making the move to reduce what he calls “complete and total lawlessness” in the capital.
