A Ukrainian sniper unit has reportedly set a new world record for the longest confirmed sniper kill, taking out Russian soldiers from a distance exceeding 13,000 feet. The incident occurred on August 14, 2025, in the vicinity of Pokrovsk, Ukraine, where two Russian troops were killed. The shot was made using a Ukrainian-produced rifle, enhanced by artificial intelligence and drone assistance.
Military journalist Yuri Butusov stated, "The record-breaking shot was made using artificial intelligence under the guidance of an unmanned aerial vehicle complex with a 14.5 mm alligator rifle." This achievement comes amid escalating Russian military actions in the Pokrovsk area, which was once home to over 60,000 residents.
The previous record for the longest sniper kill was held by a 58-year-old Ukrainian sniper, who successfully eliminated a target from approximately 12,400 feet. The recent record-setting shot took place just one day before a significant summit between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
During a joint press conference following their meeting, Putin described the discussions as occurring in a "constructive atmosphere of mutual respect." Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is scheduled to meet with Trump in Washington, D.C., on Monday. Zelenskyy indicated on social media that they would discuss strategies for ending the ongoing conflict.
