As part of the commemorative activities for the Inter-American Day of Air Quality, the Ecosocialist Management Team in the state of Nueva Esparta carried out a plantation of a thousand mangroves in the Laguna de La Restinga National Park.
According to a press release, the established plants correspond to the red mangrove ( Rhizophora Mangrove ), a crucial species for stabilizing coastlines, protecting against erosion and waves, and also serving as a resting area for a vast marine biodiversity.
Mangroves are also highly efficient carbon sinks, a key factor in mitigating climate change and purifying the air at the local level.
