DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — Love Fellowship Christian Church was looking to bring the community together at their backpack giveaway Saturday.

It ran from 1 to 5 p.m. at Mueller Park. There was food, entertainment, and free backpacks and school supplies.

Organizers said events like this are important for supporting kids and bringing families together.

"Connection is the next currency. I believe that these events are important for us to connect, because as we connect it builds wealth," said Bishop James A. Wills, a pastor at the church.

Wills said he hopes this event encourages more connection throughout the community.
